RCMP investigating fraud at Bonnyville Boys and Girls Club

The former Executive Director of the Bonnyville Boys and Girls Club, Patty Cowden is being investigated for fraud.

According to the RCMP, “On Jan. 28, 2021, the Bonnyville RCMP received a complaint from the Boys and Girls Club of Bonnyville of a fraud. The Bonnyville RCMP has been conducting an investigation into these allegations and this investigation is ongoing.”

According to public record, the last Executive Director was Patty Cowden who goes by the stage name Patty Srisuwan. Sasha Johnston is now the new Executive Director of the Bonnyville Boys and Girls Club.

“We are aware of the investigation and have been cooperating with the RCMP,” Johnston told Lakeland Connect. “We would like to assure our members and the community that our new Board of Directors and Executive Director are committed to providing exceptional programming to the youth of the Lakeland. We are moving forward as an organization and we will continue to serve our community.”

Lakeland Connect contacted Cowden and asked her, “We have learned that she was let go from the Boys and Girls Club and is being investigated by the RCMP for fraud. There are two sides to every story and we would like to give you a chance to tell your side of the story.”

“Who told you this?” Cowden responded. “I don’t think I can.”

Cowden has obtained legal counsel, Lakeland Connect requested a statement from the lawyer on Cowden’s behalf. One was not provided.

The RCMP told Lakeland Connect, “No further details can be provided at this time.”

“The complaint is still under investigation and a media release will be sent out once charges are laid,” Sgt. Kim Hillier from the Bonnyville RCMP said.
