It’s National Police week

RCMP employees are called upon to respond to tense, sometimes dangerous situations where they are required to make quick decisions in the interest of public safety. Uniformed or not, they do this everyday with courage, professionalism and compassion of which they deserve to be very proud.

National Police Week, May 9 to 15, is an opportunity for police to take stock and celebrate their accomplishments and successes.

This year’s theme for National Police Week, is “Working together to keep our communities safe.”

Brenda Lucki is the Commissioner for the RCMP.

“The theme recognizes the collaborative efforts of police, first responders, as well as community and social organizations to keep our communities healthy and safe,” Lucki said. “There can be no doubt that all police have depended on the expertise and experience of these critical partners to ensure the best outcome in an incident.”

The Commissioner believes the RCMP is a great Canadian institution.

“It’s why over 30,000 proud employees choose to work here. But we also know that we can be better,” Lucki said. “Canadians deserve and expect us to keep striving to be our absolute best.”

Lucki says recently, there have been increasing calls for policing organizations to modernize that will enable police to better meet the needs of all communities they serve.

“The RCMP’s Vision150 plan is how we are going to get there,” Lucki stated. “As our commitment to building a better RCMP for everyone, Vision150 includes initiatives that will strengthen our work with partners and communities, so that we continue to deliver the best possible services for the well-being of all Canadians.”

This National Police Week, the Commissioner would like to thank Canadians for their continued support of the RCMP and all other first responders, community and social organizations.

“We continue to work hard to make important changes and advancements within the RCMP and we know that together we’re moving the RCMP into the future,” Commissioner Lucki concluded.
