Duclos School Hanging Hats For Mental Health
A local school in Bonnyville is showing its support for Mental Health Awareness week.
You are not alone. If you’re feeling anxious, uncertain, sad, or lonely, consider reaching out to a friend, a family member, or another person you trust.
It is normal to experience stress and anxiety in these uncertain times. To show support for people who are feeling this way, Duclos School is encouraging students, families and community members to hang a hat on their fence on the north side of the school to show support for Mental Health Awareness.
JoDee Conrad is the Assistant Principal and a teacher at Duclos School in Bonnyville.
“We hope that this visual will be a powerful reminder of the importance of taking care of each other and ourselves,” Conrad told Lakeland Connect. “We encourage families to park in the back alley, walk to the fence and attach their hats, old or new, with a plastic tie.”
The event started Sunday evening, May 2, and will continue all school week.
“We will also have a bin just outside the front doors, to collect hats for the fence as well,” Conrad said. “The hats will be removed on the evening of Friday, May 7, and then donated locally depending upon their condition.”
Hang a hat at Duclos School to show your support.
