Families can soon compete in this year’s Virtual Race of Vermilion
Participating families will try their best to be the first to complete a list of physical and mental challenges, both in their homes and around the community during the Virtual Race of Vermilion on March 20.
Prizes will be awarded to the first place family, and all will cherish the fun they have in all the unique situations they find themselves in.
This is the 6th Annual Race and the second virtual event for the Good Life Institute (GLI).
“We’d like to gather people in an activity fashion so everybody can have a bit of fun and a bit of normalcy and health for an individual. The virtual style is more of a challenge for the whole family – if you had a board game instead of working against one another, you are actually working together,” said Josh Anderson, GLI coordinator.
Because people’s family members often understand their strengths and good qualities, they will find ways to use each person’s skills while working as well.
For example, some people may be able to utilize their artistic abilities, some participants may be a cross-stitcher or good at sewing, while others may like learning to make different meals. Hopefully, Anderson said, they will have an opportunity to learn something along the way as well.
Upon completion of tasks, such as finding a certain item in their house or performing certain exercises, teams will be submitting photos online.
As well as highlighting the community, the GLI is hoping to promote local businesses as best as they can to encourage support for them throughout the pandemic. Participants visiting businesses will be asked to wear masks as well as follow all other current health regulations.
He said it will be very similar to last year’s virtual race with different clues and challenges.
Teams have to be composed of family members or cohorts (so a house of students could participate).
“We hope everyone will come out, be safe, and have a great time,” said Anderson.
“Hopefully the pandemic is done next year, and we can actually do a race similar to previous years from the pandemic.”
The race will take place from 12 – 4 pm. Registration is required by March 19, and will cost $50 plus GST per team, however, there are no restrictions on the number of people per team.
To register for the race, or for more information on the rules and what to expect you can visit www.thegoodlifeinstitute.ca.
The GLI’s other events throughout the year including Love, Taste of Vermilion, Art in the Park, and Savour will depend on regulation limitations at the corresponding time.
