A helicopter tipped over while making an emergency landing in a field east of St. Paul on Feb. 24.

According to RCMP Cst. Ryan May, there were no injuries and the pilot was able to walk away from the scene. There were no other occupants in the helicopter at the time.

“I just want to make clear that it wasn’t any fault of his own, it was just a mechanical issue and he landed in a place where he knew that there wouldn’t be any injuries, should it go that way and he did a great job,” said May.

He said that while the pilot was landing the helicopter, it caught a snowdrift and that was what caused it to tip over.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 10:26 a.m. and were on their way back to the detachment by 11:45 a.m.

May said because the incident involved an aircraft, Transport Canada is handling any further investigation of the incident but there was nothing suspicious about it.

The helicopter made the emergency landing in a field east of Hwy. 881 and south of Hwy. 29. All roads remained open.
