Elk Point RCMP are investigating a fatal collision that happened on Highway 41 on Sunday.
On Sunday morning before 11:00am, police responded to a two-vehicle collision south of Elk Point. The collision involved a semi-truck and an SUV.
The collision resulted in the death of one adult female.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the semi-truck had been travelling southbound on Highway 41 near Elk Point and the SUV had been travelling northbound on Highway 41, RCMP said.
The SUV attempted to overtake a vehicle and hit the semi head-on, RCMP said.
The lone female occupant of the SUV was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene and the driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Police said the RCMP collision analyst was called in to assist with the collision and the highway was closed to traffic until approximately 2:00 a.m.
“All possible contributing factors relating to this collision are being considered, and the collision remains under investigation,” said Elk Point RCMP in a release.
The name of the deceased female will not be released.
