New hours for Vermilion Food Bank

Located at the Catholic Parish of the Holy Name, the Vermilion Food Bank changed to new hours last week, and now operates 12:30 – 2:30 pm every Friday.

“We don’t want to miss people because of the change, and we want to help whoever needs help,” said Geraldine Collins.

“Compared to a lot of food banks that have gone up in the number of people they served through the fall, we have stayed fairly consistent. We are doing pretty good here – we got a lot of nice donations over Christmas.”

She said the lock down may still have an affect in the coming months. This year they received more cash donations due to the lack of food drives, but that way they were able to buy what they needed.

“We’d like to give a big thank you to all of our donors – we are very thankful for that. We’ve had great volunteers that have pushed through the pandemic and we’ve been able to stay open the whole time,” said Collins.

People in need are encouraged to reach out, and she said they are pretty open to who they accept. They don’t ask a lot of questions, just that people only attend every two weeks. Social distancing is in effect and for more information, you can call the church office at 780-853-5161.
