AHS declares COVID-19 outbreaks at Lac La Biche and Smoky Lake hospitals

Alberta Health Services has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two Lakeland hospitals on Thursday.

They have been declared at William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre in Lac La Biche and George McDougall-Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre.

AHS said in a public statement online late Thursday afternoon that three individuals associated with William J. Cadzow tested positive for COVID-19.

Two individuals associated with the facility tested positive for COVID-19 at George McDougall-Smoky Lake Healthcare Centre.

Contact tracing for anyone potentially exposed to these individuals at each facility is ongoing, AHS said.

Patients within these hospitals will continue to receive treatment and care, although added visitor restrictions are in place.

AHS said only designated family or support people will be allowed to visit in end-of-life or other extenuating circumstances.
