Bonnyville Legion Hall give helping hand to Santa’s Elves and K of C

The Royal Canadian Legion in Bonnyville has decided to step up their contributions to popular Christmas drives this season.

The executive decided this year to donate $1500 to BCHS Santa’s Elves & $2000 to the Knights of Columbus Christmas hampers.

Legion manager Jamie Beaupre said the members were happy to give back during these tough times.

“We kind of do contributions every year anyways, just not that large of a scale. So yesterday I fired a text out to the executive right and said, okay, these are our numbers and then most of the executives got back and said, ‘can we up it?’ Because of this year with COVID, and everything like that, and we were happy to do it,” he said.

“We’re still open. We’re just complying with restrictions,” he said.

The Legion is open on Fridays while abiding by the current health restrictions and hope to link up with Santa Claus for a visit later this month.

“There’s a lot of mental health issues going on with people too. I believe that a Legion Hall and service places like that should remain open for these people. And we’re following the protocols to the tee.”
