Hearts for Healthcare on their way to “Lifting Long Term Care”

One of Cold Lake’s top charitable groups is getting involved this Giving Tuesday.

Hearts for Healthcare has started a “Lifting Long Term Care” drive to raise money for slings for the Cold Lake’s facilities residents.

“This is our third year participating. Last year, we did a campaign that raised funds for public health for a breastfeeding room. And this year, we’ve decided to do what’s called lifting long term care,” said Kari Leiper.

“We are fundraising $6,000 to purchase slings for residents.”

These slings can help safely move a resident from their bed to a chair while also encouraging balance training.

The campaign is already off to a fast start.

By 7:00pm Tuesday night, they had already raised $4540, well on their way to their fundraising goal.

“We’ve got it set up as a fundraising page also at heartsforhealthcare.ca. There’s kind of a bunch of options, you can create a team, you can join as an individual or join the current team. You get your own Facebook page or your own fundraising page. Share that with your friends and family and co-workers and set your own goals,” said Leiper.

“I just want to say a big thank you to Canadian Natural, the City of Cold Lake and Osum. They gave a generous donation to purchase the lift that these things will be going with. Then also this morning Canadian Natural donated $3,000 to get us kickstarted today. So that’s incredible. Thank you very much.”

For every $20 donated, Canada Helps will donate $2 towards the campaign.

The fundraising cutoff is January 15.
