Canadiens out to 3-0 start, Ice beat Tigers 8-2 for 1st win
The St. Paul Canadiens continue to roll out of the gates with a blowout win against the Lac La Biche Clippers on Sunday 7-2.
The offensive depth came to play with seven different goal scorers, a consistent theme so far for the Canadiens, who have started the quarter of the NEAJBHL season with a 3-0 record.
“Honestly if you look at our team last year as well, it’s more by committee and I think that’s gonna be the case this year,” coach Shawn Germain.
“We want to have a balanced attack. You want to roll four lines if we can in a perfect world, right. I love the balance and you know everyone’s working hard and we’re getting some results.”
Despite the team’s good start, Canadiens coach Shawn Germain’s focus on good habits didn’t have him loving the team’s pair of four-goal wins over the Vermilion Tigers two weeks ago.
Luckily, there’s plenty of practice time in between games in this 12-game season.
“I wasn’t super happy with how the first weekend was just a couple of things that I didn’t love. I think we did a good job of cleaning that up in the last two weeks. And I guess that’s one of the advantages of having a million practices in between games now,” said Germain.
“That’s a good team over there. And I felt we weathered the storm early, and we’re able to push through.”
That was the first contest of the 2020-21 season for the Lac La Biche Clippers. They’ll get a chance to square up with St. Paul on Tuesday night at the Bold Center at 8:00pm.
“That was their first game of the season, so we might have caught them. Maybe a bit flat footed for the first part of the game there. But like I said, they’re still a very good team and we expect better from them on Tuesday, and so we’re gonna have to clean some things up here tomorrow.”
The Cold Lake Ice beat the Vermilion Tigers in a 8-2 romp Sunday afternoon for their first win of the year. The Tigers (0-3) host the Ice Monday night at 8:15pm.
