Safe Halloween events shaping up across the Lakeland

Whether it’s tricks or treats, there is a variety of much smaller-scaled Halloween themed activities across the Lakeland this Saturday.

At the Bonnyville Baptist Church, they are hosting a trunk-or-treat carnival from 5:00-7:00pm for all ages. Come see the trunks of cars and trucks decorated for the evening, play some games and of course get some candy, popcorn and hot chocolate.

The Bonnyville RCMP and Bonnyville Victim Services are offering a sweet solution with their Safe Halloween Program in the C2 Parking Lot on Saturday, October 31 from 1:00-6:00pm.

There will also be an RCMP pumpkin carving contest for anyone under the age of 17 with separate prizes for two ages groups — 12 and under, and 13-17 that wraps up Friday as well. Bring your carved pumpkin to the Bonnyville detachment between 8:00am–5:00pm. The winners will be announced November 2nd.

O2’s in Cold Lake will also be hosting a Halloween Bash starting at 7:00pm that will offer a bluetooth speaker and other prizes.

In St. Paul, there are free movies at the Elite Theatre. Parents and kids can check out Hotel Transylvania (PG) at 11 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday, or at 4 p.m. on Sunday, no tickets required. Adults can take in The Conjuring (R) at 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, but an advance ticket picked up from Town of St. Paul FCSS is required for entry.

For those looking for something a little sweeter, there is a town-wide spooky scavenger hunt underway from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Once you’ve found everything, trade in your completed sheet for a treat from FCSS at the Rec Centre.

If you’re dressing up for the day, the St. Paul Youth Council is hosting an online costume contest. To enter, tag @SPYC20 on Instagram or #SPYC on Facebook by 10 p.m. on Halloween night. The contest is open to all ages (and species if your pet is so inclined), with prizes to award. Entry categories are based on age: 0-3, 3-6, 7-12, 12-18, and 18+.

In Saddle Lake, there will be trick or treating at programs on the town site from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 30.

There is also a costume contest with categories for couples, scariest, cutest, funniest, best group, most original, and least recognizable. To enter, submit a photo by 9 p.m. on Halloween with the name, age, costume category, and contact information to the inbox of Saddle Lake Jordan’s Principle Facebook page, or by e-mail to either Genevieve Jackson, or Terri Cardinal. Winners will be announced on Nov. 3.

Kehewin Cree Nation and Kehewin Health Services are hosting a Trunk or Treat at the Band Buildings from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 30.
