Northeast Alberta Hub recognized for business potential in national magazine

Northeast Alberta Hub is receiving national recognition for its service and opportunity for economic development.

The information HUB covers the Lakeland, and Midwest areas, and spans as north as Lac La Biche, as far east as Lloydminster, to the west along Highway 16 to Vegreville, was named one of Canada’s Top 20 locations by international economic development magazine Site Selection in September.

The hub is an alliance of communities in the Lakeland area, colleges, and industry that tracks business opportunities and looks to stimulate economic development.

“The annual Canada’s Best Locations feature sheds additional light on Canada’s many location options for corporate site selectors,” said Mark Arend, editor in chief of Site Selection in a press release.

“We salute the provinces and communities that made this year’s rankings.”

Reeve of St. Paul County Steve Upham who chairs the executive, said he was pleased to be recognized and described Northeast Alberta Hub’s approach.

“To compete globally Alberta HUB’s strategy has been to work regionally thus providing a business environment for success. This recognition validates the work of the Alberta HUB alliance in getting our story out to the world,” said Upham.

Executive director Bob Bezpalko thinks the area is in a good spot to spur new opportunities and described the ranking as an incredible achievment.

“Alberta HUB prides itself on providing current accurate investment information and our region is well-positioned to play an expanding role in the global economy,” he said in the release.

“Alberta HUB will continue to innovate and diversify to meet the evolving needs of the future.”
