M.D. saving money with federal grant for Kinosoo Adventure Park

M.D. receives federal grant for Kinosoo Ridge Adventure Park. Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program grant injects $800K.

The Municipal District of Bonnyville is pleased to be the recipient of an Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) grant in the amount of $800,000 for the Kinosoo Ridge Aerial Adventure Park.

The grant is federally administered by Infrastructure Canada.

The adventure park, which will begin construction this fall, comes with a $2 million price tag.

Along with the ICIP grant, the project will also benefit from a previously awarded provincial Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) Capital grant of $666,600.

The rest of the cost ($533,400) will be funded by the M.D.

The accessible seven-pole aerial park will be located at the base of Kinosoo Ridge, on the shores of Cold Lake, giving visitors the chance to experience one of the best views in the region. It is expected to open by the end of May 2021.

The adventure park will have design concepts representative of our area and rich heritage, with Cold Lake First Nations collaborating on the inclusion of Denesuline culturally themed elements.

Other themes to be represented include agriculture, oil & gas, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and lakeside living.

“Council has prioritized recreation during the last three years, recognizing the importance of play for both physical and mental health,” said Reeve Greg Sawchuk in a press release.

“We’re thankful that both the federal and provincial governments have recognized our efforts to expand and evolve our recreational assets with these grants, allowing us to take Kinosoo Ridge to an all-season facility, while diversifying our economy through tourism-related activities.”

Project progress will be posted on the Kinosoo Ridge Facebook page at www.facebook.com/skikinosooridge.
