Golf tournament to support Clippers Junior B hockey team

Lac La Biche Junior B Clippers will be hosting their third annual golf tournament to raise money for the upcoming season.

The golf tournament will be held at Vilna Golf Course on September 6, and because of COVID-19 there are a limited number of teams able to compete this year.

Golf teams will have to pay $400 to secure their spot in the tournament. All registered teams will also have a complementary steak dinner that night.

Willie Abougouche, manager of the Clippers, says that this year they are raising money to go towards a set of new wheels.

“This year, we are trying to get a little more funds so we can buy a bus,” said Abougouche.

“So we are looking for bus sponsors, and having a bus will save us money throughout the year.”

Businesses and organizations can also donate $500 to get their logo on the bus. Some of the businesses that have already donated their $500 are Tara’s Pizza, Vilna Golf Course, Zees Auto, and V&H.

Although college-level hockey has been cancelled, Junior B is still aiming to have a season and the Clippers will be hitting the ice sometime in early November.

Abougouche believes that hosting fundraisers not only benefits the team, but brings the community together.

“It’s important for the community to support the team, we have a lot of local players this year, so we are trying to build the team up,” said Abougouche.
