Gearing up for Tigers hockey season

The Vermilion Minor Hockey Association is prepping for the new season and will be hosting their AGM in a couple weeks.

Masks will be mandatory at the meeting and participants will have a chance to learn about Hockey Alberta’s new return to play plan.

“I always look forward to getting the kids on the ice and seeing how happy they are after having the summer off,” said president Shaun Cadrain.

Cadrain said the new plan has everyone’s safety in mind and that so far there is no set return to gameplay. As of now, he said there is a one-month postponement to season, and that they will enter into a development season with practices and small area games to help set the stage for later on.

Due to COVID-19, the Vermilion Minor Hockey Association is offering a 10 per cent discount for registration. Cadrain said this is to help ease some of the burdens associated with the pandemic and help keep children in hockey.

“The reason minor sports are important for children is that it prepares you for real life,” said Cadrain.

“Coach-able children will learn how to accept people for who they are, and to work as a team which carries over to employment.”

Cadrain said the opportunity for discussion at the AGM should help to alleviate any concerns.

“I like being involved I want to see as many kids on the ice as possible,” said Cadrain.

If you want to attend the AGM on September 9, meet upstairs above the Stadium at 7 pm.
