Webb’s touring ’49 Mercury, Mustang to new locations
Webb’s group of companies is planning a to send a decked out Ford Mustang and a 1949 Mercury truck on tour to each of their vehicle and machinery dealerships this year.
The new Mustang has been painted to showcase each of their locations, and the pair will act as a conversation piece and raise awareness about the footprint of the company in their new communities.
Dealer principal, Mike Webb, said the project started as an awareness piece with the intention that they would be in regional parades.
“In the COVID-19 world it has been a different approach to entering these communities, but we are excited to be there and look forward to serving new customers,” said Webb.
In March, Webb’s Machinery took over for Tri-Ag Implements at their main store in Wainwright as well as two satellite locations in St. Paul and Consort.
Across the industry, manufacturers had been encouraging expansions by putting pressure on machinery dealers to have a bigger footprint.
When they were approached about the potential sale, Webb’s was already underway with an ongoing major renovation to the New Holland dealership in Vermilion.
In addition, the St. Paul location was already underway of adding a new office facility and expanding their shop.
Going forward, Webb’s plans to not only become involved in their new communities, but to continue with ongoing improvements and support them as well.
“Our roots involve community responsibility–it’s not a conscious effort but we know it’s how we want to do business,” said Webb.
As for their history, Webb’s was started when his grandfather, George C. Webb, took over the Massey Harris franchise in 1933. Along with starting a business during the Great Depression, George Sr. suddenly lost his wife and raised five children on his own.
His three sons came to work with him, and later his grandchildren and great-grandchildren also followed suit.
A Mercury-Lincoln franchise was added in 1946, and began to include Ford models in 1971. Machinery locations were later added in Vegreville and Lamont.
Now the six locations are sure to enjoy featuring the Mustang and Mercury as they tour around the countryside.
