LLB kids summer recreation program starts next week

It’s a chance for the kids to get moving this summer.

The Summer Shack program in Lac La Biche will restart next week on July 6 and runs until August 28.

Children from ages 6 to 12, will be able to take part in the recreation program for free. It is also a drop-in program so there is no registration necessary.

The Summer Shack program is meant to help children stay active this summer through sports, games, and other activities.

The program is from Monday to Thursday, from 1:00pm-4:00pm, and will facilitate outdoor activities so children can get back outside and connect with nature.

However, there will be some changes this year to make sure every child is safe, and won’t be exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

“To meet COVID-19 safety regulations, parents or guardians must drop off their children and complete a basic health screening,” said Jihad Moghrabi, communications manager for the Lac La Biche County. “We are also only accepting 20 children into the program at this time.”

This year there are only two summer shack locations, Dumasfield and Holowachuck Estates, in comparison to five last year.

Parents are asked to make sure their children has a water bottle, peanut free snacks, a hat, sunscreen and bug spray, and running shoes.
