Bonnyville Soccer Association pursues modified season

The Bonnyville Soccer Association has opened registration for a modified outdoor season as of June 22nd, the first community in the lakeland to do so.

The season will focus on training and scrimmages, while there will be no competitive play.

“There are some protocols we have to follow as per AHS and Alberta Soccer Association,” said president Jose Teixeira.

“At this time Bonnyville Soccer Association is very excited to return to train phase, with all the rules and regulations in place.”

The Association also emphasized the evolving nature of returning to play, and that programming could change depending on changes from the provincial government.

Currently registration is open to all lakeland communities for the U5 to U19 leagues, provided there are no local soccer activities currently active, however children with respiratory issues such as asthma will not be allowed to participate.

Players and coaches also cannot belong to more than one sport cohort.

Parents/guardians will also need to accommodate children participating in the U5 league to ensure players are adhering to social distancing standards.

The prices for registration are $75 for U5 to U9 and $125 for U13 to U19. Registration will be online only, and the prices hav been lowered to reflect the COVID 19 impact.

“We’re hoping to keep age groups together, but until registration comes back with numbers we don’t know how it will all work,” said Teixeira.

The season is set to begin July 6, and should run for six to seven weeks.

“We hope to get enough players to make this return to play a good modified season,” said Teixeira.

“Remember, we’re all in this together.”
