Elizabeth Metis Settlement lifts state of local emergency

Elizabeth Metis Settlement has lifted their local state of emergency on Wednesday morning.

Approximately 130 families are now allowed to return to the community after being evacuated on Monday evening as the lone remaining entryway into Elizabeth was under threat of being washed out.

Chairperson Irene Zimmer said on Monday that Main Drive Creek Road was under serious threat after heavy rainfalls under the past couple days.

On Sunday, the other entryway was washed out from rising water levels.

The state of local emergency was lifted at 8:00am.
