The M.D. of Bonnyville will begin a project late this summer this year to expand one of its key campground sites.
On May 20, the M.D. approved the plan to add an additional 83 campsites to the Cold Lake M.D. Park, while long-term an additional 39 sites could be added.
Reeve Greg Sawchuk said the reason to invest is to draw more people to the area.
“It’s kind of exciting and it’s in line with the eventual goal to make this a real tourist destination and get people on the lake and enjoying the campground,” said Sawchuk.
Four larger stalls will be accessible for those with more limited abilities with paved areas, and more spaces for RVs in pull-through and back-in sites.
Only ten tenting sites will survive after the expansion.
The majority of existing sites will remain in service, except for lots 56 and 57, which will be eliminated as the M.D. fixes a drainage issue and installs a walkway.
The M.D. is looking at beginning the project in September.
