Golfing is allowed: Here are what Lakeland golf courses are doing

Golf courses in the Lakeland are readying to open this weekend as golfers have been allowed to play under the province’s new public health guidelines.

In fact, the Elk Point Golf Course opened last Saturday with restrictions.

Elk Point Golf Course

Their clubhouse will remain closed until the province relaxes more restrictions, but there is door access to book tee times. You must register before you go on the course.

Touchable items usually on the course like sand rakes or ball washers will not be available, and flags are not to be removed.

Only one golfer is allowed at the tee boxes at a time, tee times will be booked 15 minutes apart, and a single rider is permitted in a cart unless they’re accompanied with someone they came with.

Extra sanitization is being done on the course, and the golf carts to rent, but clubs will not be available to rent.

Bonnyville golf

The Bonnyville Golf and Country Club opened their course on Friday and president Maurice Mercier said the tee time booking are filling up.

Golfers can show up 15 minutes before their tee time after they book one before arriving at the course. The driving range will only be open for golfers just before their tee time.

Similarly, common touchpoints on the course have been removed.

When you finish your round, you’re encouraged to leave promptly as the pro shop is closed and no food or drink is permitted at this time. Those restrictions could be eased as public health orders do.

Tee times will be separated 16 minutes apart to increase physical distancing. If you live in the same household you can ride in the same cart, otherwise, you drive in a cart by yourself.

A trailer is set up at the parking lot entrance where golfers will check-in and will be told of the restrictions.

Cold Lake golf

The Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club will open on Tuesday, May 12.

Again, tee times must be booked before arriving at the course, nor should you should up any earlier than 15 minutes before your tee time.

Washrooms will only be available at the first tee, in the clubhouse.

The Grand Centre Golf and Country Club has a series of restrictions as well that are in place since opening on Wednesday.

They have greater distance between tee times of 20 minutes and a marshal will be surveilling activity on the course.

Here are the full list of restrictions:

St. Paul

The St. Paul Golf Course is preparing to open on Saturday.

The clubhouse will be closed until further notice and again, no walk-on golfers will be allowed. You must book a tee time beforehand.

Only two golfers will be allowed to golf together and you must ride solo in your cart unless you can prove your golf partner lives with you.

The Ardmore Golf Course did not respond by press time.
