The Vermilion Ag Society has officially suspended the 114th Vermilion Fair due to COVID-19.
“The Vermilion Agricultural Society and its many dedicated volunteers, continue to monitor current events with the hopes that we are able to hold some sort of appreciation to thank our community for supporting us since 1906,” they said in a press release.
“However, the health and safety of our community and fair attendees is too important for us to risk. As such, we will comply with the mandate set out by Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Government.”
The fair is held on the final weekend of July.
They said they are still hoping some COVID-19 restrictions will reduce and allow them to host some sort of community event, but they are anticipating the next fair will be the summer of 2021.
“This likely means having us to postpone the next Vermilion Fair until 2021. As soon as it is safe to do so we will be working hard to prepare for the 114th Vermilion Fair.”
The fairgrounds in Vermilion will remain closed until further notice.
“With the unwavering commitment of our volunteers and the strength of our community, the 114th will be planned with much anticipation.”
The Vermilion Fair is the marquee event every year in the town.
