On May 1, 2020 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a report that an ambulance had been stolen in the front of the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre.

The ambulance was located travelling westbound on Highway 28 with its emergency lights activated. With assistance from St. Paul and Smoky Lake RCMP Detachments a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at two separate locations.

The ambulance continued onward and was driving erratically on Highway 28 into oncoming vehicles. A police vehicle then made tactical contact to stop it from further potential risk to the public.

The lone male suspect attempted to flee from police on foot but was caught and arrested without incident.

Tyler Todd Day (28) of Grande Prairie, Alta., was charged with:

  • · Theft of a motor vehicle
  • · Flight from police
  • · Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • · Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • · Obstruction
  • · Fail to comply (x6)

He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 11, 2020.
