Elizabeth Metis Settlement has declared a local state of emergency as of Friday and have put restrictions in place from entering for non-residents.

In an email, Irene Zimmer chair of Elizabeth Metis Settlement, said due to COVID-19 pandemic a curfew has been put in place.

“We, as Elizabeth Metis Settlement Chair and Council have declared a Local State of Emergency–due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have closed our borders and entrances to the Settlement Area effective Friday, April 24th at 8:00pm.

“Our two main entrance borders are secured 24/7 and members and registered residents must check-in and in when leaving or entering the community. Non-Members and non-residents will no longer be permitted to enter the community,” the email said.

“All contractors, service providers, teachers must pre-register for entry on Elizabeth.

“Elizabeth Metis Settlement has also placed a curfew from 10:00pm-6:00am daily with the exception of those members who are employed off Settlement and emergency personnel.”

Elizabeth Metis Settlement has declared a local state of emergency as of Friday and have put restrictions in place from entering for non-residents.
