Bonnyville region with three confirmed cases of COVID-19 provincial data shows

The latest provincial data on COVID-19 reveals the Bonnyville region has three confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Friday.

The Cold Lake region was confirmed to have one case as of Wednesday and that remains the same on Friday.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, confirmed 49 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, which puts the total to 195 in Alberta.

There are 17 cases of COVID-19 in the Alberta Health Services North zone, which is up seven from Thursday.

Vermilion River County area has one confirmed case of the virus.

The Calgary zone has 126 cases of COVID-19 and the Edmonton zone have 43 confirmed.

The South zone has five confirmed cases and the central zone has four confirmed.

The Alberta Government is also trying to minimize the impact to the oil and gas sector in the province by funding the industry levy for the Alberta Energy Regulator for a period of six months, with $113 million.

They also grant extensions for oil and gas tenures for one year on mineral agreements in hopes to that will raise capital and plan future activities for industry.

The Government of Alberta has extended a loan to the Orphan Well Association for $100 million, which is meant to decommission about 1,000 wells, and start more than 1,000 environmental assessments, and they said create up to 500 direct and indirect jobs.

Economic Recovery Council gets to work

Premier Jason Kenney has announced the membership of the Economic Recovery Council, created to provide advice which will guide Alberta through the downturn that comes as a result of COVID-19 and the energy price crash.

The council is made up of policy and industry experts who will provide insight and expert advice on how to protect jobs during the economic crisis stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent collapse in energy prices. The council will also focus on strategies for long-term recovery from the crisis, including efforts to accelerate diversification of the Alberta economy.

The Government of Alberta will do everything in its power to protect jobs and job creators. The council announced today, chaired by Dr. Jack Mintz, will provide advice and policy recommendations on how best to confront this unprecedented economic crisis, and recover from it in the long term. This will include strategies to accelerate economic diversification.”
