A Message from Mayor Maureen Miller
Hope you are all staying warm for the first couple of months of 2020. Besides the ongoing snow removal this time of year we are actually pretty busy behind the scenes. Parks and Rec are busy maintaining ice surfaces with staff working shifts to cover all the use.
Work continues on the Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrade, with the cement work progressing. Certainly the cold weather has thrown a few curves at the contractor doing the work, but it continues nonetheless and our target completion date for early 2021 remains in place.
Work in the finance department remains focused on this year’s budget. The Finance staff are collecting numbers from our stakeholders, nailing down revenues and expenses and working on putting this lengthy and complicated document together for Council’s review. Last years numbers will be audited in mid March. Once all the numbers are in we will know what direction council is going this year. Stay tuned.
By the end of March both the arenas will be closed for this season and maintenance and repairs will begin. However, things at the pool remain busy between school swim lessons, class lessons, birthday parties and public swims the Aquatic Center Staff are kept busy year round.
We are so excited to continue the change of direction we saw last year at the Tourist Information Center, (Landing Pad). Attendance almost tripled with the new look, our new staff and all the wonderful work of local artisans on display and for sale. We are looking forward to another year.
Shortly we will be announcing a date for a public meeting regarding the use garbage cans supplied by the town that can be lifted and emptied by an arm on our existing truck. We will be looking for your feedback on this issue. Watch for a date sometime in late April. We will put some information along with the time and date in the March utility bills. Please feel free to share your thoughts will through email sburton@town.stpaul.ab.ca or our Facebook Page if you can’t make it the chosen date.
That’s all for now.
