Pontiacs forward Matt McKim commits to University of Alaska-Fairbanks

Bonnyville Pontiacs forward Matt McKim has committed to an NCAA school.

McKim is headed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks on a scholarship, making him the second Pontiac this season to be committed to the next level.

Earlier in the year his linemate Lucas Thorne committed to the Holy Cross Crusaders.

McKim is enjoying his best season of junior hockey since coming from the Surrey Eagles in the summer.

He’s scored 15 goals and 42 assists this season in just 40 games, good enough for 10th in AJHL scoring.

The St. John’s, Newfoundland product scored a goal and an assist in the Pontiacs 4-2 win over the Drayton Valley Thunder on Saturday.

He’s one point behind Thorne for the team lead in points (58).

The Pontiacs begin their most difficult stretch of the season on Friday at 7:00pm when they host the first place Sherwood Park Crusaders.

Sitting six points behind the Saints for second place, they head to Spruce Grove on Sunday for a matinee contest, before hosting the Crusaders again on Jan. 15, the Saints on Jan. 17 and Okotoks Oilers on Jan. 18.
