Local clubs bring home cheer banners

Two local clubs competed at the Battle at the Border Cheerleading competition, in Lloydminster, this past weekend. Bonnyville’s Premier Academy of Cheerleading & Tumbling and Cold Lake’s Cheer Force Jets each brought home banners from Lloydminster.

Premier Academy

Scorchers – Class: Tiny 5-6 year olds : 2nd

Flicker – Class: Minis 7-8 year olds : 1st

Glimmer – Class Mini All Star 6-8 year olds: 2nd and  specialty award for Best Routine Layout

Fever – Class Youth 9-11 year olds: 1st

Smoke – Class: Junior 10-14 year olds:  1st place

Xplosion – Junior Level 2 All Star: 3rd place

Cheer Force Jets

For the Cold Lake club, not all their competitors traveled to the Lloydminster competition, explains coach Viola McNeil.

“We took 1 team and an individual. Our Junior 1 elite team, the Hornets, placed 1st in their division, hit zero deductions and got a specialty award for best stunts overall.”

The club also sent cheer competitor, Maëlle Kilburn.

“We also had Maëlle compete in the individual category, tiny level 1 and she placed 1st and hit zero deductions.”

Hitting zero means that the team or individual performed every stunt and tumbling pass in the routine without any falls or safety violations.
