Snow Angels program helps seniors shovel their sidewalks

While many people are able to snow shovel their sidewalks and driveways, there are some in Bonnyville that cannot.

That’s why the Bonnyville and District FCSS has brought the Snow Angels program to help out.

David Beale, FCSS director, explains that the program is all about being a good neighbour.

“We have a series of signs printed up that say a snow angel is needed here. We make them available to individuals who would need a snow angel to help keep their sidewalk clear. They can drop it in the ground in their lot and people who go by who are looking to do the right thing, grab their shovel and go over and clear a sidewalk,” he said.

“It’s an old fashioned concept. Do the neighborly thing. It’s what we always have done,” he said.

This is the third year of the program.

The shoveling effort is meant to be done as volunteer work.

“They might be an elderly person, that’s most of them, but it could be somebody who just had surgery can do it this year. Or it could be a young mom with three little underage children in the house.

“We do like to tell the story of the mom who took her crew of young people out through the shovels in the back of the pickup truck and drove around to do some drive-by shoveling,” said Beale.

You can pick up signs to be apart of the Snow Angels program at the Bonnyville and District FCSS office.
