Hesse named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week

Easton Hesse has been recognized by the AJHL as the league’s Ford Defensive Player of the Week for his two wins over the AJHL Showcase.

On Tuesday night, the Pontiacs defeated the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 7-4 and Hesse would pick up his first of three wins over the week.

The 19-year-old followed that up with a great performance at the Showcase with a 3-2 overtime win versus the host Camrose Kodiaks, stopping 34 of 36 shots on goal.

Hesse then allowed just one goal on 35 shots the following day in a 2-1 win over the Whitecourt Wolverines.

The Leduc native holds a 2.08 GAA and .936 save percentage to kick-off his second season with the Pontiacs.

He has started each game for the Pontiacs this year, who are off to a 5-1-1 record through the first seven games.

The Pontiacs host the Lloydminster Bobcats on Wednesday.
