SPCA fundraiser Raising the Woof with comedians and meal

The Bonnyville and District SPCA’s signature fundraiser Raise the Woof is this Saturday.

Comedians James Uloth, Mickey Housley and Brent Ethun will be performing at the Bonnyville Seniors Drop-in Centre for the 5th annual event.

“It’s probably our biggest fundraiser,” said vice-president Charlene Rask.

“We need this money to keep this place going. This place takes a lot. We have 30 cats. We’re at capacity right now at the facility and we have a waiting list of people wanting to surrender cats. We need to keep this place running so we can find homes for these furry little friends.”

The doors open for happy hour at 5:00pm, the meal catered by C’est La Vie Catering begins at 6:00pm, and the comedians hit the stage at 8:00pm.

These fundraisers are a major reason the SPCA can continue to run.

This year, the Town of Bonnyville, and M.D. of Bonnyville stepped in with operating funds to keep the doors open.

“We got really lucky last year when the Town and M.D. came on board and helped us out to keep running because it was getting pretty close to having to say we couldn’t do it anymore.

“Before that, it has been 100 per cent fundraised, there was no other place to keep this running except for you guys coming and helping us out. And in a way with Raise the Woof and the comedians, it’s almost us giving back to you,” said Rask.

Tickets can be purchased at Pet Valu or you can stop by the Bonnyville and District SPCA.

“Tickets are going fast….I’m assuming we’ll have a few at the door but you’re taking a chance,” said Rask.

“We’ve had Avenue Living coming to donate the facility. The Neighborhood Inn, always a huge supporter for the community has donated the rooms for the comedians. Buster Welding has donated the centerpieces…the ladies at Royal Bank help us out with setting up…people in this area are so generous.”
