BRFA adds details to CNRL Beartrap Facility fire
The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority has given more details on the fire at CNRL’s Beartrap facility.
BRFA Fire Chief Jay Melvin said fire crews from Bonnyville, Fort Kent, Ardmore, La Corey and Iron River responded near 1am on Sunday, Aug. 25 to the CNRL site.
Seven apparatus were on scene including pumpers, foam, aerial, and tanker support, said Melvin, with 21 personnel on-scene.
“We, unfortunately, don’t have a comment on how it may have started. It was fully engulfed by the time we got there,” said Melvin.
The investigation will be overseen by Canadian Natural, said Melvin.
“Since it’s within their plant, we have differed to CNRL. In the event, they need to assist in the investigation, but at this time we were leaving it within CNRL’s until they determine otherwise.”
CNRL said the facility has resumed production.
