Pontiacs ship Ethan Leyer to Whitecourt Wolverines
One of the Bonnyville Pontiacs younger players from last season will not return to the club in the 2019-20 season.
Ethan Leyer has been sent to the Whitecourt Wolverines in a trade agreed in principle.
The Pontiacs are expected to receive future considerations for the 17-year-old from St. Albert.
With lots of forward depth last season, Leyer found himself occasionally on the outside of the starting lineup.
“We thought that he really came along, as expected, and we were looking forward to an opportunity to help him jump into a larger role this year,” said coach and general manager Rick Swan.
“But I think that there was a people in his inner circle that felt that maybe that a different opportunity would be able to give him additional responsibilities that maybe we couldn’t even afford for this year.”
In 49 games in 2018-19, he scored nine goals and eight assists.
St. Cloud University signed Leyer to a NCAA Div. 1 scholarship last fall.
The deal is expected to be done this week, said Swan.
