Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Elk Point

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Lakeland region.

Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul and Elk Point have the thunderstorm watch in effect, while areas of Lac La Biche County, Smoky Lake County and La Corey are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing large hail and heavy rain, Environment Canada said.

Thunderstorms have developed this afternoon, some of which may become severe.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, they say.

Tonight it is expected to be mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers early this evening and risk of a severe thunderstorm, but clearing later this evening.

Fog patches may develop overnight with a wind southeast 20 km/h and a low of 12 degrees.

Saturday will be mainly sunny with increasing cloudiness late in the morning, then a 60 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon. There’s a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Fog patches dissipating in the morning with a high of 20 degrees.
