Moose Lake subdivisions drainage issues to be looked at by engineering firm

The M.D. of Bonnyville is taking steps to address the water drainage issues at Willow Ridge Estates and Hillside Estates subdivisions near Moose Lake.

M.D. council approved just over $150,000 for an engineering study which will evaluate, design, and construct a system to address drainage.

Reeve Greg Sawchuk said the issues have been ongoing in the past few years.

“That whole area there are low spots and the water is collecting. We have now put it out for an engineering firm to do an actual study and try to come up with a plan,” said Sawchuk.

We know that it’s not going to be cheap to try and rectify the problems out there, but council right now is willing to look at it and see what we can do.”

Both stormwater systems are failing and causing flooding issues to residents as the stormwater ponds have no connection to a suitable outfall.

The effects have been felt since the water levels rose on Moose Lake in 2017.

In the 2019 budget, the M.D. set aside $700,000 for Moose Lake drainage issues.

After the study is completed, the item will come back to council to approve the drainage project.
