The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority has appointed a new deputy fire chief.

Effective July 3, Dan Heney will be the regional deputy fire chief.

The position has been vacant since former deputy fire chief Jay Melvin was promoted in December 2018.

Heney grew up in Bonnyville and started his fire service career with the Bonnyville Volunteer Fire Department in 1993 and has decided to return to the area, the BRFA said in a press release.

“The Board is confident that the professionalism, knowledge, and experience that Dan has displayed throughout his Fire Service career will be continued in his new position,” the release said.
