Man damages property while fleeing from police; suspected to be impaired

Vermilion RCMP have arrested a 55 year old man after he fled from police while they were attempting to conducted a roadside check.
In the late afternoon of May 25, 2019 Vermilion RCMP responded to a request for assistance from EMS. They were responding to a report of an unresponsive driver in the area of 44th Street and 47 Avenue, in Vermilion.
On scene police entered in to an impaired driving investigation.
During the course of that investigation the driver fled the scene in his vehicle, at a high rate of speed.
Police followed the driver and ultimately located him in his residence, where he was arrested without incident.
During his flight from police, the driver lost control of his vehicle and damaged a fence, thus disabling his vehicle.
No one was injured during the driver’s flight from police.
A 55 year old Vermilion resident is charged with several offences including:
  • Impaired driving
  • Refusal to provide a breath sample
  • Flight from police
The male was released from custody and will appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on July 15, 2019 at 10:00 am.
As the matter is before the courts, no further information will be released.
