Heat cruise to victory over Wainwright with Bibeau scoring five goals

Mitchell Bibeau scored five goals and the Lakeland Heat remain unbeaten in six games after an 11-3 win against the Wainwright Wolfpack on Wednesday.

The Wolfpack are an improved team so far this season with more players than last year a win under their belts.

Bibeau scored a first period hat-trick and then goals by Jaydon Frey, Cohlten Bernier, Allen Wareham, Aaron Goulet in the second period moved the game out of reach.

“We’re still trying to work on some of those details and a game like this allows us to do that. We’ve seen some good things come out of our players,” said Coach Dennis Hodinsky.

“We had a good team meeting after our last game and talked about what we need to do as a team and how we need to move forward in the season and we started to see some of those things from our players today.”

The Wolfpack scored all three of their goals in the third period, capitalizing on their powerplay opportunities.

Bibeau now leads the league in goals with 28 in just six games averaging just under 1.6 goals a period.

“We lost a few key players this year and I thought it would be good to step up my game and play a couple extra minutes and they’re going in for me early,” said Bibeau.

Allen Wareham is the oldest member of the team and likes the camarederie of the group.

“We’ve got a really good group of guys this year. We talked last practice, we can trust everybody. Everybody’s got each other’s back and this is one of the best years we’ve had for having each other’s backs and watching out for our fellow teammates,” said Wareham.

The Heat will now go on the road to play Vermlion next Wednesday before a pair of weekend games against St. Albert and Parkland.

“It’s always good to be the top dog. People gun for you a little bit so that means they will work harder against you and that can set you up for later in the season. That’s good to see, I prefer games where both teams are working hard and it’s a fair battle that way. It definitely makes you a better team,” said Dennis Hodinsky.
