Yaks d-man Matthew Monk commits to Skidmore College

The Bonnyville Pontiacs have announced that 20-year-old defenseman Matthew Monk has committed to the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds (NCAA Division 3) located in Saratoga Springs, New York for next season

Monk, from Langley, British Columbia registered 14 points in 41 games, including 117 penalty minutes with the Pontiacs after joining the club following a mid-season swap with Whitecourt for Adam Sandstrom.

“Matthew plays the game the right way and he is a great teammate and respected leader in our dressing room,” said Pontiacs Head Coach Rick Swan.

“It is great to see Matthew rewarded for his hard work both on and off the ice as he is a great character person who comes from a great supportive family.”

Monk joins fellow teammates Grayson Constable, Luke Albert, Bobby Young, and Ethan Leyer who’ve committed so far from this season’s teams.

Skidmore College is a private liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York with approximately 2,650 students.

It is ranked as one of the best national liberal arts colleges in America.

Matthew Monk becomes the 59th Pontiacs player who has committed to play college hockey since 2013-14.
