St. Paul Courthouse opens its doors for 6th Annual Law Day

Law Day Provides St. Paul Residents of all Backgrounds with Access to Free Legal Resources and Interactive Experiences

Law Day, a nation-wide event that commemorates the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, is taking place on March 29, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Courthouse. The event commences Alberta’s Law Day celebrations and marks the sixth annual Law Day in the region and 37th across Canada. Hosted by the Canadian Bar Association – Alberta Branch (CBA – Alberta), Law Day offers residents of all ages an opportunity to get an inside look at the legal system through informative and interactive experiences.

Law Day provides attendees with a positive and approachable courthouse experience to help dispel the misconception that the legal system is overwhelming or intimidating. In St. Paul, the full array of 2019 experiences will include courthouse tours, mock trials featuring Gru and the Minions, Canadian citizenship ceremony, storytelling in the Law Library, and more.

“Every year, Law Day invites the community of St. Paul into the courthouse to experience the legal system and legal profession firsthand,” says Renée Moore, 2019 Chair for St. Paul Law Day. “Law Day is a great opportunity for Albertans to better acquaint themselves with the law and connect with lawyers in a fun, welcoming environment. From mock trials featuring fictional characters to story-time in the Law Library, Law Day offers experiences for all ages.”

Albertans located outside of a market hosting Law Day, or those unable to attend the event, can still utilize free legal resources through Dial-a-Lawyer—a province-wide initiative that offers 15 to 20-minute legal consultations over the phone. Albertans can call 1-888-644-8950 (toll-free) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 13, 2019. Lawyers from different areas of law will be available.
