M.D. joins City and Cold Lake First Nations in joint program
The M.D. of Bonnyville will be working together with their neighbours.
The M.D. Council at their last meeting Wednesday agreed to submit a joint application with Cold Lake and Cold Lake First Nations to the First Nations-Municipal Community Economic Development Initiative Program.
“We agreed to be apart of a three-part committee essentially where the City of Cold Lake, Cold Lake First Nations, and M.D. will agree to sit down and really develop a new relationship,” said Reeve Greg Sawchuk.
“This is aimed towards tourism, economic development, and really just creating a new relationship.”
The program aims to support reconciliation through relationship building and the development of a joint community economic development or land use plan.
Once the agreement goes through, the partnership could lead to grant funding down the road.
