The Kinosoo Blizzards Alpine Ski Team made a great impression this month at the Jasper Junior Olympics (JJO). The race draws amateur alpine ski racers from all over the province. The Blizzards had one top three finish with multiple high placements from their club.
On March 2nd and 3rd, 388 alpine ski racers, aged 4 to 11, converged at Marmot Basin to take part in the event.
The Kinosoo Blizzards had 29 racers represent their club at this North Zone, Alberta Alpine sanctioned race that included clubs from Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Grand Prairie, Jasper and Red Deer.
A highlight from the Saturday’s Giant Slalom race included a 3rd place finish, and the treasured JJO bell, for Annabelle Iverson, who races in the 8-year-old female category.
Also notable was a 5th place ribbon for Eva Schafer, who races in the 10-year-old female category and finishing just off the podium were Reese Ilchuk, 6-year-old female category, and Ryan Pearse, 6-year-old boy category.
The Kinosoo Blizzards will be hosting Blizzard Blast March 30-31 at Kinosoo Ridge Snow Resort. The races are open for the public to view.
