Lac La Biche man arrested following police standoff

A 43 year old Lac La Biche man has been charged with 23 offenses following a standoff with RCMP on January 27th. In the late afternoon RCMP responded to a report of shorts fired at a residence on Highway 663 and Holowachuk Estates. Police arrived on scene and were informed a male was inside the residence with a firearm and shots were fired. No one was injured.

Police contained the area and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) also responded to the scene. The suspect male was arrested the next morning at approximately 11:00 a.m.

A search warrant of the residence was later executed and police seized five firearms.

Darren Emile Cadieux (43) of Lac La Biche was charged with 23 Criminal Code offences, some of which include careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The man was also charged with five counts of unsafe storage of firearms and six counts of discharging a firearm with intent.

He was also wanted on two separate warrants at the time of his arrest.

Cadieux was remanded into custody and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on Jan. 31, 2019.
