#BeChange; LCSD prepares for 6th annual girls’ retreat
Young women from across Lakeland Catholic School District (LCSD) will have the opportunity to participate in the sixth annual all girls retreat this February. It is for female students in grades 5-12 with students in grades 7-12 staying overnight.
The retreat will begin on Friday, February 8 at 6:00 pm at École Notre Dame High School in Bonnyville and it will run until the next day at noon. The young girls will camp out and get to know one another during this time.
This year’s theme is #bechange and focuses on how girls can have an impact their perspective, relationships, and community. Staff and student leaders will engage the girls in a number of reflective and group activities designed to bring them closer. In addition to the fun and games, organizers will hold open question and answer sessions and lead the group through worship.
Siobhan Penner is a teacher and Youth Minister at École Notre Dame High School and she is one of the main organizers for the event. She said, “A great outcome of this retreat is that the girls get to spend time with girls they normally wouldn’t get the chance to, they are able to share and learn from each other’s experiences.”
A culminating task of the retreat is the “Big Cook.” Groups come together and work as a team preparing meals for families in need. Last year participants worked for two-and-a-half hours preparing 180 meals for people within the community.
For more information about this year’s retreat, speak to the school Youth Minister or school principal.
