Ice coach after 12-5 loss: “Worst game I’ve coached in my four years…”
It was a dominating performance from the Lac la Biche Clippers in Cold Lake on Friday night.
The Clippers fired 12 goals past both Matt Henwood and Dustin Johnson-Watson, but they could’ve had even more. They consistently found 2-on-1 and 3-on-1 rushes with pinching Ice defenseman creating the open lanes.
The Clippers finished with 68 total shots on goal. Their top five leading scorers: Dawson Boucher, Isaac Barr, William Desjarlais, Brody Rosychuk, and Luke Crookedneck all finished with at least four points.
“Awful. Terrible. I’ve been out of high school long enough to figure out more adjectives to describe this game. But it wasn’t good. It was the worst game I’ve coached on in my four years as part of the team,” said coach Scott Hood following the loss.
“It falls back on the kids. We protect them enough and keep them working and giving them the information. A few guys worked tonight and played, and some guys were just out there because they were told to show up at 7 o’clock for an 8’oclock game.”
The Ice had 47 shots themselves and had opportunities in the second period to capitalize on bringing the game within two goals, thanks to Mitchell Bibeau’s powerplay markers.
But short lapses in the second and third period put the game out of hand quickly.
“It was domination on their part. They’re a good team. Let’s not hide the fact they’re a good team. They’re sitting in second place for a reason. They work hard, they have some skill, they move the puck, they move their feet. Everything we told our guys, and we just didn’t do anything tonight. Let’s be mad for a bit but let’s move on, we got a bigger one tomorrow,” said Hood.
The Ice travelled to Killam on Saturday and nearly stole a game from the third place Wheat Kings. They fell 3-2 despite 47 saves from starter Matt Henwood and a two-point performance from Mitchell Bibeau as well.
With no points on the weekend, the Ice are now tied for 5th in the NEAJBHL with the Lloydminster Bandits at 27 points.
Frog Lake’s struggles continue
The Frog Lake T-Birds woes continued when they fell to the visiting Vermilion Tigers 5-2. The T-Birds only had 11 skaters for the game.
Peter Willier and Colton Stanley scored the two markers for Frog Lake.
Their Sunday game the Wainwright Bisons was cancelled.
The T-Birds still sit in 7th in the NEAJBHL.
