Chapter two of Lakeland Pro Wrestling sees battle for Pride’s belt
The second chapter of Lakeland Pro Wrestling kicks off Saturday night at the Beaver River Fish and Game.
The wrestling event will continue the struggle for Pride’s championship belt, and Pride ducking one of the top challengers: Adam Sky.
It’s a continuation of the inaugural event back in November, with at least six new wrestlers joining the fray. The crop is predominantly based from Alberta, including former UFC fighter Mitch Clarke is based out of Edmonton.
“We need good family entertainment and that’s what we’re hoping to provide. There’s no movie theatres here, there’s no bowling, basically for that kind of money it’s hard to do anything that doesn’t cost a whole lot of money,” said organizer Scott Leslie.
There are six matches on the card for the show.
A Battle Royale will take place to determine Pride’s challenger for the belt. Chris Perish will fight Son of Irish. There’s a six-man tag-team match with Dylan Stone, Steven Styles, Cam Stevens battling Matt Hart, Sweet Daddy Soul, and Larry Woods. Also, Larry Clarke will face Christian Strife.
As of publication date, there are still four tables of tickets available for the show.
The show will also honour legendary wrestling broadcaster “Mean” Gene Okerlund, whose ringside interviews with Hulk Hogan, Randy “Macho Man” Savage, and Ric Flair was integral to the WWF and its popularity.
Wrestling School classes underway
Scott Leslie, organizer, and participant in Lakeland Pro Wrestling said the wrestling school where he teaches introductory wrestling moves is underway twice a week at Hi-Energy.
Leslie said he first started learning wrestling moves in a church basement twelve years ago.
“But it wasn’t the best teachers I had at first, it was just underground mostly Then in 2012, I took a two-day seminar in Philadelphia with high trainers who trained with WWE superstars,” he said.
“From there that’s where it mostly kicked off and doing seminars and training with Kevin Owens, Sammy Zane from WWE, they were in Montreal before going to WWE and they had a school open, trained with them. I trained with lots of guys that are now in WWE with those seminars.”
On Wednesday’s and Friday’s students can learn the beginner moves for the cost of $100 per month.
