Frog Lake man charged with second degree murder of Joey Benjamin

On Dec. 22, 2018 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Elk Point RCMP responded to a call of a disturbance at a residence in Frog Lake.

Once on scene, police located an unresponsive male inside the residence who was later declared deceased by EMS.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit attended and took carriage of the investigation with assistance from the Elk Point, Bonnyville RCMP Detachments and St. Paul Forensic Identification Services.

RCMP have charged Darren Moocheweines (25) of Frog Lake with second degree murder of Joey Benjamin (28).

Moocheweines was remanded into custody and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on Jan. 3, 2018.

An autopsy is scheduled today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton. RCMP are not seeking any additional suspects in relation to this investigation.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be released.
