The Bonnyville RCMP detachment held their first-ever Pack the Patrol Car event on Saturday. Braving the wind, the mounties raised 2970 pounds of food for the local food bank.

Staff Sargaent Sarah Parke announced that halfway through the event they had to bring in a second truck because of the overflowing support. “In the end we ‘packed’ two police trucks full of 1350 Kilograms of food, that’s 2970 lbs, for our local food banks.”

“Bonnyville is one of the most giving communities that I’ve ever lived in,” stated S/Sgt. Parke, who added she knew the event would be successful from its onset.

“Community policing has always been a main initiative for the RCMP,” Parke explained the members are always finding new ways to get involved in the community. “We definitely want people to see us not just as people enforcing the law, but as members of the community, doing what we can to help out.”

The Bonnyville RCMP detachment has 20 members and six support staff.
