Streams of Dreams
Environmental Stewards is bringing an exciting new program, Stream of Dreams, to the watershed, which is sure to make a big splash!
Duclos students aren’t sitting on the fence when it comes to protecting fish habitat. They are getting ready to decorate one of their school fences with brightly painted fish that will serve as a reminder that fish are important to the community and that we all need to protect them and their habitat.
Students at Duclos are learning all about their local streams and watershed to help the whole community understand how we are all connected to fish habitat and clean water.
Today, 2018 LICA and instructors from the Stream of Dreams Murals Society are coming to Duclos School to engage our students in an eco-education program focusing on water, watersheds, streams and oceans, and to create a lasting community art legacy to beautify and inspire the whole community. Each child, teacher and staff at Duclos will be learning about our local waterways, how all storm drains lead to them, and how we can all make a difference in protecting water before painting a beautiful “Dreamfish” to create a fence mural outside our school.
Erin Ritchie, Education & Outreach Coordinator at LICA – Environmental Stewards
“We are thrilled Stream of Dreams is coming to our area to train the LICA team to deliver this amazing program that teaches students and reminds the entire community about the importance of our watershed, while also creating beautiful art!”
All 500 beautiful Dreamfish will be installed on the chain-link fence in front of the school on October 20th, 2018. Keep your eyes open as this beautiful new work of art will soon decorate our community.
To date, the Stream of Dreams Murals Society has helped create more than 550 murals, with over 195,000 participating in the program across Canada. To find out more about Stream of Dreams visit www.streamofdreams.org and www.lica.ca to learn more about LICA – Environmental Stewards
